We are seeking a temporary, part-time Archival Processing Assistant to support the creation of an archive for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.

BGCGSD began in 1941 and now includes over two dozen locations throughout the greater San Diego area. Programming ranges from daycare to after-school programming, sports leagues, tutoring, and day camps. BGCGSD aims to preserve and document the history of its organization and its relationship with the community by creating an in-house archive.

The Processing Assistant will assist the Lead Archivist with collection processing, arrangement, and description. This work will include basic preservation, inventories, and data standardization. The Processing Assistant will also help identify groups, individuals, and themes in the collections. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in gaining experience in archives and special collections and learning what is involved in building an archive from the ground up.

The work period will run from March through July 2025. The Processing Assistant will work primarily from the Escondido Branch, but travel to other Boys and Girls Clubs in the San Diego area may be required.

Duties:
-Rehouse collections into archival enclosures
-Create folder level inventories
-Preservation work as needed
-Data input and standardization
-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
-Demonstrated knowledge of, or recent coursework in, processing, arrangement, and preservation of archival collections. Hands-on experience preferred.
-Demonstrated knowledge of, or recent coursework in, metadata standards, such as Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), and MARC.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Ability to work independently, maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy in management and completion of tasks.
-Ability and willingness to lift boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
-Familiarity with basic software tools, such as Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
-Reliable transportation

Salary:
$25.00 per hour

20-25 hours per week
