Scope of work
Options for Learning is seeking a freelance or intern archivist to support a special project aimed at preserving and celebrating the organization’s rich history. This short-term engagement will focus on organizing historical materials, developing a sustainable asset management system, and helping capture institutional knowledge from key individuals.
Key responsibilities and deliverables
– Establish an asset library: Organize, catalog, and index historical documents, photographs, media, and other archival materials for easy retrieval and long-term preservation;
– Assess and preserve physical assets: Review and evaluate existing materials to determine preservation needs; identify and recommend assets for digitization based on historical significance and condition;
– Develop oral history process: Create a structured approach to interviewing key staff, previous program participants and families, and other stakeholders, including drafting interview questions, creating consent forms, and advising on recording and storage methods;
– Consult on best practices: Recommend protocols and implement a system for ongoing archival management, including metadata standards, digital storage solutions, and preservation guidelines;
– Prioritize collection of initial historical content and interviews of organization’s founder (draft of short video must be completed by internal team by Sept. 1).
Preferred qualifications
– Coursework or degree in library science, archival studies, museum studies, history, or related field;
– Experience with archival organization, cataloging, and digitization processes;
– Knowledge of oral history methods and ethical considerations;
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
– Ability to work independently and manage project timelines.
– Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with users, staff, and stakeholders to facilitate access to archival materials, explain complex information, and collaborate on projects.
Contract details
– Hourly rate: $22-$37
– Duration: To be determined based on project plan; estimated at three to six months;
– Hybrid work; some onsite work required to assess and handle physical assets.
