Summary Description:
Lyrasis is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Standards and Testing Archivist for ArchivesSpace, an open-source, archives information management web application designed for managing descriptive information about archives, manuscripts, and digital objects. (https://www.archivesspace.org/)
The Standards and Testing Archivist works with community groups and program team members to maintain and improve metadata standards support in ArchivesSpace, including extending support for international descriptive standards. The Standards and Testing Archivist also contributes to improving our manual and automated test coverage and user documentation. This is a three-year term position, with possibility for continuation dependent on funding.
The ArchivesSpace application was first released in September 2013, and it is sustained by an active member community of over 500 organizations. Community collaboration and member contributions support and guide all facets of ArchivesSpace-development, code review, migration support, technical and user documentation-and are key to the advancement of both the ArchivesSpace application and community.
Duties/Job Description:
Keep track of changes in the standards landscape.
Contribute to writing tickets and specifications for standards-related work.
Serve as liaison to the Metadata Standards and Testing sub-teams and provide support for their activities as needed.
Develop ArchivesSpace crosswalks for International Standard for Archival Description (ISAD(g)), the Canadian Archival Accession Information Standard (CAAIS), and other international standards as applicable. Create documentation, tooltip sets, and other resources to make them easy for users to apply.
Monitor progress on adoption of and changes in Records in Context(RiC) and, in conjunction with the Metadata Standards sub-team, make recommendations for its application to ArchivesSpace as appropriate.
With the Metadata Standards sub-team, maintain data maps and other reference materials related to the use of standards in the application.
With the Testing sub-team, perform manual testing for the application as code is delivered and before each release.
Write behavior scenarios and automated tests for the application following patterns created for the recently concluded end-to-end test suite project.
Write user documentation as needed.
Participate in relevant conferences and professional groups as appropriate.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Degree in Archives or a related field or equivalent professional experience in archives.
Familiarity with and interest in learning more about standards used in the archives and library professions, including DACS, EAD, EAC-CPF, MARC, ISAD(g), and RiC.
Familiarity with functions and workflows used in archives.
Familiarity with ArchivesSpace application.
Effective time and project management skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Willingness to travel to conferences and meetings as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
Engagement with one or more professional standards communities.
Software testing experience-experience with both manual testing and test automation useful.
Proficiency in more than one language.

Physical Demands:
This position is fully remote and requires sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Incumbent must be able to meet and communicate regularly via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and/or other teleconferencing means.
While the position is fully remote, occasional travel to in-person professional conferences and meetings is required.
