Position Overview:

The Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records division is seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Digitization Specialist (Library Technician II) within the Imaging & Preservation Services program. This specialized team is responsible for providing digitization services for long-term preservation of Nevada’s historical, cultural, and government records.

This position performs complex technical duties in a highly specialized area, requiring knowledge of digital imaging systems, cultural heritage preservation, and archival handling. Applicants should be comfortable working independently on projects, collaborative within a team environment, while also leading and mentoring other staff.

Responsibilities:

Fosters a safe, professional, respectful environment for employees of diverse backgrounds and identities.

Operate a variety of advanced digital imaging equipment, including high-resolution digital cameras, scanners, and specialized software, to digitize historical cultural heritage materials and government records.

Apply museum and archival best practices to handle and prepare fragile documents, maps, photographs, film, and artwork prior to digitization.

Apply standard post-capture image adjustments such as rotation and cropping, neutralizing color, and inverting and enhancing negatives. Apply complex post-capture image adjustments including file stitching for oversize materials.

Perform detailed quality assurance on digital images for clarity, completeness, and accuracy, ensuring compliance with state (NRS 378.255) and federal (36 CFR 1237 Subpart E) standards for permanent records.

Develop, document, and implement digitization workflows, standards, and procedures.

Work with customer agencies to communicate project updates, troubleshoot, and schedule material drop offs.

Supervise and train technical support staff and temporary workers.

Stay up to date with emerging technology and best practices.

Performs related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

To be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of increasingly responsible experience working in a library, archive, museum, photo studio, or similar environment, one year of which included technical work assignments such as such as digitization, graphic design, inputting metadata, handling archival material or working with a-typical software; OR one year of experience as a Library Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

This position requires a valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

This position requires State and Federal fingerprint-based background checks as a condition of appointment and as condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong proficiency with digital imaging equipment and RAW workflow software (e.g., Capture One, Lightroom, Adobe CC). Knowledge of studio lighting equipment and techniques.

Experience working with cultural heritage materials in a library, museum, or archive environment such as documents, maps, plans, artwork, photographic prints, slides, negatives, and film.

Familiarity with specifications requirements related to archival digitization (e.g., TIFF, JPEG2000, PPI).

Ability to troubleshoot and innovate within rapidly evolving technical and archival environments.

Strong eye for color, value, and visual accuracy.
