The Dallas Morning News has an exciting opportunity for a senior digital archivist and researcher with strong creative, visual and digital skills. Join us in producing first-class journalism and in revitalizing an archive that informs, inspires, and brings new life to the rich history of the North Texas region.

The primary purpose of the role is to build, design and cultivate The Dallas Morning News Archive as well provide technical expertise, research support, and contribute to newsroom content and initiatives.

Responsibilities:
Manage projects containing born-digital, digitized and analogue materials for organization, description, ingestion, storage, preservation and access
Oversee aspects of editing, design, organization and evaluation of the archival digital asset management system
Manage the processing of digital and physical assets to ensure their long-term storage and accessibility.
Develop and implement technical scripts to optimize the ingestion of assets
Manage the evaluation and maintenance of physical archives, including clips and microfilm
Collaborate on archival projects and stories with newsroom staff
Provide guidance and instruction to newsroom staff on effective research techniques and tips
Develop and deliver presentations that promote the archive to members, the public and newsroom staff
Create content for online and print, social media posts and newsletters as well as stories, oral histories and other creative projects
Work with licensing historic content
Troubleshoot archival technical issues and implement creative solutions
Use knowledge of research techniques to contribute to newsroom-wide initiatives and content. Contribute to non-archival content, intelligence gathering and newsroom research training
Assist research editor with refining policies and procedures regarding the archive and its use

Job requirements:
Master’s degree in archival sciences, library/information sciences or equivalent required.
Five to10 years of experience in archives, research, database maintenance, libraries or newsrooms preferred.
Experience with either newspaper digitization projects, docWorks metadata software, Web design, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python and/or writing experience is a plus.

Experience with DAMS, digital archives scanning, digitization, photos, microfilm and physical materials needed.
Knowledge of DFW history and news is helpful
