LOCATION: History Center – 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102
COMPENSATION: Typical starting range $76,640 – $95,800 annually
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2080 annual hours) position.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to oversee the cataloguing function at MNHS. This position establishes standards for how materials are arranged, described, and made accessible and ensures that technology tools and best professional practices are applied to maximize research discovery. This position manages a team of catalogers working with collection types across holding areas and collaborates closely with peers across the LRC division and in IT.
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Establishing Standards – Set standards for how materials should be arranged, described, and preserved; 2) Staff management – Direct processing and cataloging staff and work using supervisory and project management skills; 3) Project planning and management – Set processing and cataloging priorities and performance goals and ensure all targets are achieved; 4) Collaborate with technical support resources – Primary department liaison with technical support colleagues across organization; and 5) Collaborate with division colleagues on larger department and divisional work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Experience enhancing and transforming metadata for archival and library collections, including manipulating data to integrate unstructured and/or legacy information with standardized descriptions and repurposing metadata for reuse.
Experience working with library and archival content management systems such as Alma/Primo, Archive Space, KEmu, Preservica, etc.
Deep knowledge of cataloging tools and standards, including RDA, DACS, LCC, LC-PCC, MARC, OCLC, etc.
Experience planning, implementing, and leading effective programs and complex projects.
Awareness of current and emerging issues and trends in special collections.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Working independently and taking individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment.
Communicating, both orally and written, including preparing and delivering reports.
Creating positive partnerships and relationships within an organization and with external partners.
Gathering data, analyzing, and organizing information into action plans.
Computer skills, specifically Google applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree in library or information science or equivalent related experience.
Professional experience in the areas of archival processing and bibliographic and special collections cataloging, including digitized and born digital holdings.
Three or more years of successful supervisory experience, unionized environment preferred.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience project and/or staff management through database conversions.
Experience with reparative description.
