Job Title: Museum Librarian/Archivist
Location: Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, Philadelphia PA
The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum was founded in 2008. The museum’s collection consists of approximately 75 racing sports cars and was assembled over more than 50 years by Frederick A. Simeone, a retired neurosurgeon and native of Philadelphia. Every month, the museum hosts “Demonstration Days” which features a themed educational presentation followed by a driving demonstration from cars in the collection. The library contains automotive literature, documents, photographs, and sales brochures dating back to 1892.

Job Summary
The Museum Librarian/Archivist will manage, organize, and preserve the museum’s library and archival collections. This individual will play a key role in enhancing the accessibility and visibility of the library’s resources while ensuring adherence to professional standards of library and archival science. Additionally, they will collaborate with staff, volunteers, and external organizations to promote the library’s mission through education, outreach, and research.
Key Responsibilities
Library and Archival Management
• Maintain, organize, and preserve the museum’s library and archival collections.
• Perform research to support museum events.
• Catalog materials, ensuring compliance with library and archival standards and best practices.
• Develop and implement systems for organizing and providing access to archival materials (including paper, photographs, video, and memorabilia), including accurate and complete descriptions and inventory of holdings.
• Provide reference services and assist patrons in identifying primary and credible resources.
• Maintain current knowledge and monitor trends in archives and libraries.


Outreach and Education
• Develop and deliver presentations and educational programs to diverse audiences, ranging from small groups to large events, both in person and virtually. Represent the library in a professional manner during events, outreach initiatives, and partnerships.
Supervision and Volunteer Coordination
• Supervise, train, and delegate tasks to library volunteers.
• Provide guidance to volunteers, ensuring adherence to library policies and workflows.
Administrative Duties
• Maintain records of library activities, usage statistics, and project progress.
• Support fundraising efforts and contribute to grant applications or donor engagement.
• Utilize and maintain library software, including, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, CatalogIt, and other specialized tools.
Qualifications
Education
Degree in Library Science, Public History, History, Archival Studies, or Museum Studies.
Experience
• 3–5 years of experience in libraries, museums, archives, or related fields.
• Experience in outreach, education, or non-profit work is a plus.
• Automotive knowledge or experience is preferred but not required.


Skills and Competencies
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with team members and the public.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Advanced organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of special library operations and archival management.
• Experience with cataloging and research techniques.
• Comfort with public speaking and delivering engaging presentations.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Work Environment
• This role may involve occasional lifting of library materials and prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
• Some evening and weekend work will be required for special events or programming.
