The Dallas Morning News has an exciting opportunity for an Archivist with strong creative, visual and digital skills. Join us in revitalizing an archive that informs, inspires, and brings new life to the rich history of the North Texas region.
The Digital Archivist’s primary purpose is to help build, design and cultivate The Dallas Morning News Archive as well as to provide technical archival support, research support for historical information and contribute to content produced from the archives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist with projects containing born-digital, digitized and analogue materials for organization, description, ingestion, storage, preservation and access
Assist with editing, design and organization of front and back end of archival site
Complete quality control reporting according to current archival standards
Troubleshoot archival technical issues and implement creative solutions
Support ongoing digitization and newsroom preservation projects
Use professional research and archival techniques for digital, print and other initiatives
Assist research editor with refining policies and procedures, performing evaluation and maintaining of physical archives including clips and microfilm
Perform routine administrative functions including, but not limited to, microform handling, materials and digital asset inventory reports and information collection
Create content for online and print, social media posts and newsletters as well as stories, oral histories and other creative projects
Work with licensing historic content
Individual collection building and research projects assigned as needed
Collaborate on archival projects with researchers and newsroom staff
Collaborate with the local historical community
Attend lectures, functions, interviews, seminars and offsite meetings
May help train staff, interns and practicum students

Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in archival or library/information sciences preferred.
Experience: Three to five years of experience in archives, research, database maintenance, libraries or newsrooms preferred.
Experience with either newspaper digitization projects, metadata, writing scripts, Web design, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python and/or writing experience is a plus.
Experience with DAMS, digital archives scanning, digitization, photos, microfilm and physical materials needed.
Knowledge of DFW history and news is helpful
