The Faith Ringgold archive consists of materials that have been carefully preserved and
organized, offering a comprehensive view into the artist’s creative process and
methods. These retained papers include her typed and manuscript “worksheets”,
sketches, collages, and drawings; correspondence; photographs; and ephemera. The
materials provide the sole insight into Ringgold’s craft and serve as a unique repository,
with a wealth of untapped knowledge on one of the most celebrated African American
artists of the 20th-21st centuries.
The Anyone Can Fly Foundation/Faith Ringgold Archive is seeking a part-time Archives
Assistant that will begin in September 2025. The Archives Assistant will support the
Archivist with processing the collection and assist in the creation of an Encoded Archival
Description (EAD) finding aid. The Archive Assistant will work in consultation with the
Archivist to define and follow processing standards and plans, create standardized
descriptions, to ensure consistency and quality for the overall project. Additionally, the
assistant will help support reference requests and ongoing research about Ringgold’s
practice.

Schedule and Compensation:
This is a fixed term part-time position three days a week at $2,500/month.
● Part-time, flexible hours (approximately 20 hours per week)
● In-office position, not remote
● Fixed term position through December 2026
● $2,500/month

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
● In close conjunction with the Archivist, coordinate the organization of a large,
complex, multi-format manuscript collection.
● Input, assign, track, and systemize archive material metadata, following archival
metadata standards.
● Assist in establishing archive processing work-flow.
● Support with reference requests
● Coordinate digitization, as needed.
● Other duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications & Work Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in art history or a related field,
preferably with an Archives Certification
Currently pursuing a MLS degree, recent graduate or, qualifying work experience
with archives and special collections
● Demonstrates knowledge working with collections of contemporary art
● A general understanding and knowledge of the principles of archival appraisal,
survey, arrangement, description and preservation.
● Direct experience with processing collections and establishing an EAD finding aid
● Expertise in the use of a broad range of information systems, services and
databases relevant to archives and special collections
● Consistent accuracy and attention to detail
● Proficient in Microsoft Excel
● Effective written and oral communication
