The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) is looking to hire a Health Librarian or “Fellow” as part of a Learning Partnership under the Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund. This would be a one-year position.

The Fellow will gain an immersive understanding of how health departments function, how research supports public health practice, and how interagency partnerships influence program success. They will build practical skills in public-sector communication, policy analysis, and data interpretation.

Objectives:
• Enhanced evidence-based decision-making through strengthened access to literature and information tools.
• A model for integrating librarianship into governmental public health, with documented best practices
• Improved public-facing health communications and internal data curation
• Stronger interdisciplinary collaboration between information science and public health
• Strategic recommendations for long-term sustainability of librarian roles in health department

Supplemental Questions:
1. Describe a time you led or contributed to a large-scale information organization or knowledge management or archiving system. What strategies did you use, and what impact did your work have?
2. ACHD is looking to improve its Intranet and SharePoint structure. How would you assess and redesign these tools to improve accessibility and long-term sustainability?
3. Explain your process for conducting a literature review or environmental scan to inform public health policy. How do you ensure your findings are both accurate and actionable?
4. Share an example of how you translated complex, technical information into accessible content for a public or non-expert audience. What tools or approaches did you use?
5. You have one year to complete multiple high-impact deliverables. How would you structure your work plan and timeline to meet project goals?
