Business Title: Senior Manager, Historian
This role serves as the Augusta National Golf Club historian, curator and archivist. The ideal candidate is responsible for managing, preserving and enhancing the past, present and future physical and intellectual history of this institution, based on traditional and accepted archive standards. Based full-time in Augusta, Ga., the Historian also reinforces Augusta National’s position as a significant contributor to the history of golf, as envisioned by its Founders, Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, while maintaining the confidentiality of Club business.
Essential Functions of the Job
• Acts as the custodian of the Club’s historical assets while maintaining a detailed inventory. Participates in regular audits of the collection, as defined by the Heritage Program’s standard operating procedures.
• Implements a wide-reaching Heritage Program, with a mission focused primarily on the collection, organization, preservation, interpretation and exhibition of the historic past of Augusta National Golf Club, the Masters Tournament and Masters Tournament Foundation initiatives.
• Manages the Club’s digital asset management system; Surveys all historical assets and performs searches and makes consistent improvements to the database so information is easily retrievable.
• Works with the Finance Department to properly assess and insure all historical items.
• Prepares long- and short-range plans/objectives for the archive.
• Specifies collection development policies and procedures; oversees acquisition plans for expanding/improving the assets that tell the story of the Club and Tournament.
• Upholds and further develops security procedures to ensure the environmental and physical safety of all historical materials.
• Oversees the digital distribution of historic imagery for editorial use by news organizations.
• Develops and proposes potential business opportunities that put the archival collection to use.
• Nurtures and expands relationships with golf organizations and related museums; Shares material and information when appropriate.
• Manages and maintains exhibits and projects throughout the grounds to effectively display Club and Tournament historical assets.
• Acts as head of research on all internal and external historical inquiries.
• Thoughtfully administers the Club’s Oral History Program, which chronicles and shares the first-person stories of our Members, Tournament Participants, Employees, etc.
• Works within the Tournament’s scoring database interface; Provides support in keeping current all Tournament-related records and statistics.
• Provides educational support relating to the history of the Club and Tournament during the on-boarding of new employees; When requested, develops programming for the continuing education of employees.

• Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 50+ pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
• Constantly required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Supports the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications on media requests for information.
• Travels for industry-related conferences and other trips as directed by management.
• Evaluates and recommends storage needs.
• Performs all other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.
Qualifications:
Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with leadership, employees and public.
• Ability to analyze and solve complex problems pertaining to archival methods and procedures
• Significant knowledge of contemporary archival and records management principles and practices
• Experience with electronic storage and retrieval systems, database design/management
• Ability to be organized and logical while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
• Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
• Experience with Past Perfect Museum software
• Thorough knowledge of golf, Augusta National and the Masters Tournament preferred
Experience/Education:
• Eight to ten (8-10) years’ experience working in heritage management or related field
• Bachelor’s degree within a Liberal Arts curriculum including, but not limited to, Archival Studies, History, Library Sciences or related fields of study required
• Masters in Archival Science and ACA certification preferred but not mandatory
Required License(s):
• Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program
Projected Work Schedule:
Normal work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
