The Notre Dame Sisters of Omaha seek a Congregation Archivist to lead the next phase of development for their growing archival program. This is a full-time position with a 2-year contract with the possibility of an extension. The Archives recently completed major foundational work, including rehousing the core collection, establishing an online finding aid through ArchivesSpace, and developing digitization and access policies, and now require a professional archivist to continue building sustainable systems for preservation, access, and
stewardship.

Responsibilities include:
– Processing, arranging, and describing collections in ArchivesSpace
– Continuing multi-phase rehousing and preservation work
– Leading digitization initiatives and managing born-digital materials
– Responding to research requests from Sisters, staff, families, and partners
– Creating exhibits and supporting congregational projects and publications
– Training and supervising volunteers or interns
– Developing policies, workflows, and long-term planning documents
– Assess preservation and storage needs across the collection and be responsible for coordinating and submitting purchase orders for archival supplies
– Work with congregational departments to develop record-retention policies that support
consistent transfer, preservation, and long-term care of institutional records.

Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in Library/Information Science, Archival Studies, or related field (with archival specialization)
– 3–5 years archival experience, including digital preservation or digitization workflows
– Familiarity with archival standards, metadata, and content management systems (ArchivesSpace preferred)
– Strong organizational, communication, and independent decision-making skills
– Knowledge of or interest in Catholic traditions, women’s religious communities, or mission-driven organizations is preferred
– Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and handle fragile materials

Compensation:
$58,000–$65,000 plus health, dental, vision, pension contribution, and PTO.
