Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens seeks a Project Archivist to lead the first formal arrangement, description, rehousing and digitization of the Ann Weaver Norton collection. This is a term position working with Ann Weaver Norton’s personal papers and artwork and represents a unique opportunity to establish foundational archival access to a significant 20th-century artist’s legacy. The project will be completed in two phases over an anticipated 6–9-month period. Phase I focuses on Norton’s personal papers and Phase II centers on her artwork, including sketches, sculpture models, tools and ephemera. The Project Archivist will work independently in a newly dedicated archival space on site and collaborate closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement archival and digitization plans aligned with current professional standards and best practices. This position is well suited to either an entry-level archivist or a more experienced professional seeking a focused project role.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and execute a comprehensive processing and digitization plan for both phases of the project.
• Arrange, describe, and rehouse archival materials according to current archival standards and best practices.
• Create finding aids in ArchivesSpace, including series- and folder-level descriptions and inventories.
• Conduct collection assessment, inventories, scanning, and other processing activities as outlined in the project plan.
• Develop a plan for purchasing archival shelving and storage materials.
• Prepare for and implement Phase II cataloging Ann Norton’s sketches, sculpture models, tools and ephemera.
• Assist with internal and external research requests related to the collection.
• Select materials for digitization and potential display.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree completed or near completion in Library Science or a related field with a focus on Archives.
• Ability to work independently and create clear documentation of archival plans and project progress.
• Familiarity with archival preservation requirements for a wide range of materials.
• Knowledge of archival management software.
Preferred Qualifications
• Two years of archival experience (including internships or volunteer work) preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ArchivesSpace.
• Knowledge of and interest in 20th-century art and sculpture.
Working Conditions
• Periodic lifting and moving of 25–40 lb. boxes and use of a step stool or ladder.
• Work performed in a temperature-controlled environment with potential exposure to dust from archival materials.
Application Process
Please submit a thoughtful cover letter and resume in PDF format to Margaret Horgan, Executive Director, at mhorgan@ansg.org, with Project Archivist in the subject line. Relocation expenses are not available for this position.
