Job Description

The Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford (JHSGH) is hiring a part-time archivist (21 -24 hours/week, additional hours possible for grant-supported projects and exhibits). Compensation is commensurate with experience, from $26 per hour.

Officially founded in 1971, our small organization collects, catalogs, protects and disseminates the stories and contributions of the Jews of Greater Hartford. We maintain extensive physical and digital archives, host events, create exhibits and serve as a resource for professional and lay researchers.

The Archivist has a critical role at JHSGH: caring for our physical collections, processing accessions and housing them appropriately. What else will you do? Maintain our ArchivesSpace catalog, create and update our finding aids and manage our digital archives on the Connecticut Digital Archive (CTDA). You will respond to reference and research requests and facilitate access to our holdings, supervise our occasional interns and regular volunteers and perhaps even do some grant writing. You’ll need to be productive working on your own and to collaborate on team projects.

Required: an MLIS from an accredited program (or equivalent). Preferred: competence with the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft, command line and scripting, familiarity with DACS and imaging standards and experience with ArchivesSpace. Have experience with A/V projects, open-source software, exhibit design, DSLR or other digital media skills? Even better!

If any of this sounds like you, please email your resume and a cover letter telling us why you’d be great in this role to: jshdirector@jewishhartford.org. No calls please.
