The Secretary of State’s Archives Division (California State Archives) is looking for a Manager of Public Services (Supervisor II) to lead our Public Services Section, which includes the Education and Outreach Unit and the Research Services Unit. This position directly oversees Education and Outreach Unit staff and the Reference Services Manager (Supervisor I). This position performs high-level administrative work and reports to the Assistant Division Chief (Manager II). The Manager of Public Services ensures program accountability, develops policies and procedures, and directs education and outreach initiatives, as well as efforts to provide access to the State Archives’ collections. The Manager of Public Services supervises a team of highly dedicated and trained staff and works in a secured environment.

As the Manager of Public Services, you will be responsible for:

• Planning and reviewing educational materials and archival exhibits (online and physical)

• Planning and supervising the execution of social media posts and outreach events

• Supervising, directing, mentoring, coaching, and evaluating the performance of staff

• Overseeing the daily operations of the Education and Outreach Unit. This includes setting team objectives and projects, troubleshooting complex issues, and responding to elevated inquiries

• Overseeing Research Services Unit operations and addressing elevated concerns and requests

• Serving as the liaison with the Executive team regarding all outreach and education efforts

• Creating strategic plans for the integration of streamlined procedures and new technology

• Directing staff on large-scale access and outreach projects and Division initiatives

• Preparing and reviewing unit reports and statistics

• Tracking legislative bills and providing recommendations

• Establishing and maintaining contacts with the Legislature, Governor’s Office, and other external organizations

• Making presentations to external partners and stakeholders

• Attending professional conferences on behalf of the agency
