METADATA SPECIALIST (Temporary, full-time, remote possible)
The Nevada State Library, Archives, and Public Records Division invites applicants for the following full-time temporary position to support the implementation of a multi-institutional instance of ArchivesSpace. Position is contingent upon funding. Position does not include benefits. Metadata Specialist will be required to:

JOB TITLE: Metadata Specialist
JOB SCOPE:
The State of Nevada Library, Archives and Public Records Division seeks to hire a Metadata Specialist for up to 1,000 hours to support the implementation of a multi-institutional instance of ArchivesSpace. The work may be completed 100% remotely, but candidates willing to work on-site in Carson City, Nevada will be given preference during recruitment. The schedule is flexible, with the expectation that the Metadata Specialist will routinely work 40 hours per week and complete up to 1,000 hours between May 1, and December 31, 2026. Reporting to the Nevada State Archivist, the Metadata Specialist will use professional expertise to research, create, and/or enhance names and subject headings following national standards. The Specialist will also contribute to the refinement of local user guidelines for metadata creation in ArchivesSpace.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Research and create standardized names and subject headings in ArchivesSpace following national standards.
• Link associated headings with existing Resource Records (collection-level finding aids) in ArchivesSpace.
• Collaborate with participating repositories to identify and delete extraneous names, and remediate imported headings.
• Research, write, and/or edit organizational histories and biographical notes to create Agent Records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum 2 years of experience performing archival description or authority control in a library or archival setting
• Demonstrated proficiency working in an archival collection management system or library cataloging system
• Advanced knowledge of authority control (name and subject heading analysis and creation)
• Familiarity with best practices for inclusive description
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in library science, archives management, public history, or related field
• Working knowledge of ArchivesSpace
• Knowledge of Nevada history
