About Us

Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

Department Information
The Georgia Archives is a unit of the University System of Georgia and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Archives & Libraries. In addition to the main facility in Morrow, which holds about 90,000 cubic feet of permanent records, we have a records center holding about 160,000 cubic feet of non-permanent records in Austell. We have a staff of twenty-one full-time employees in Morrow and four full-time employees at the records center.
Job Summary
This is an entry level position responsible for assisting in reformatting records in the reformatting lab and assisting visitors at the welcome desk.
Responsibilities
Scan and digitally enhance records.
Create metadata and upload records.
Process payments using cash register and credit card machine.
Answer telephone, greet visitors, and provide information and assistance.
Assist with the identification of potential opportunities for outreach and collaboration, including suggesting subjects and topics, performing research, and writing content for press releases, newsletters, brochures, advertisements, and digital platforms including Facebook and YouTube; helping to identify unique or lesser-known items from the Georgia Archives collection that could be highlighted in social media content; and suggesting themes for social media campaigns that promote awareness of the Archives’ resources and services
Coordinate refreshments for events, including identifying needs and setting up and restocking refreshment tables.
Provide administrative support including assisting with preparing spaces for meetings; maintaining registration lists; communicating with registered attendees before and after the event; printing and compiling event materials, including assembling handouts, programs, name tags, and event packets, and distributing them as needed; overseeing the sign-in/registration table during events, ensuring smooth check-in, and distributing handouts to attendees; collecting and organizing attendee feedback through surveys, compiling attendance data, and gathering attendee email addresses for inclusion in the email subscriber database; .
Required Qualifications
Associates degree required.
More than one year of experience performing clerical or administrative work in an office environment required.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in archives and/or a certificate from the Georgia Archives Institute.
