Lubbock, TX: Programmer Analyst II, Vietnam Ctr & Office of Intl Affairs at Texas Tech University

The Vietnam Center and Archive is accepting applications for a Programmer Analyst II/IT Specialist. This position will require the design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, and modification of database programs, computer systems, and websites for the Vietnam Center and the Office of International Affairs at Texas Tech University. The successful candidate will maintain multiple servers and data storage/backup systems to include SAN and tape backup, and will assist with desktop support for staff and faculty. This position reports to the Director of the Vietnam Center and Archive.

The successful candidate will manage our digitization project and database, the Virtual Vietnam Archive, which contains over 500,000 database entries of word-searchable documents, images, oral history interviews, audio-visual, and other collection materials. The Virtual Vietnam Archive was created in 2001, and has become the most comprehensive online resource for the study of the Vietnam War.

The Vietnam Center and Archive collects and preserves the documentary record of the Vietnam War, and supports and encourages research and education regarding all aspects of the American Vietnam experience. We are located on the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock, Texas, and are the largest non-government repository of Vietnam War related materials in the country.

Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, or IT plus one year of full-time paid experience. An MLIS degree is preferred, but not required.

Selection preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate:

–    Expert knowledge of archival description software (such as Archivist’s Toolkit).

–    Experience working with archive or museum collection management software systems.

–    Experience with digital projects, preferably in a coordinating role.

–    Experience with website programming.
