Job Summary/Basic Function:
Reporting to the University Archivist, this position provides patron services and assists the archivists with a variety of tasks.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires twelve to eighteen months of coursework or training beyond high school and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of library policies and procedures; moderate knowledge of subject matter covered by Library Department; knowledge of computer and library related software; may require supervisory skills. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations. Requires the ability to lift boxes weighing up to 30 lbs., and to retrieve boxes shelved both high and low is required.
Duties:
Welcomes, registers and assists patrons in the Archives Reading Room; supervises patrons who are using Archives materials; trains patrons in use of the Reading Room Scanner.
Maintains services in the absence of the archivist.
May assist with the Western College Memorial Archives as needed.
Supervises and trains student assistants.
Assists the archivist with classes.
Assists with and may supervise long-term projects.
Organizes and rehouses materials in archival-safe containers.
Produces box-level indexes of archival materials.
Enters information about the collections in local and web-based databases, following national and local standards and policies.
Digitizes and photocopies materials.
Retrieves, shelves and shifts materials in the stacks.
Creates reports and documents policies and procedures.
Assists with maintenance of the archival website.
Other duties as assigned.
