Position Function A member of a team of information professionals committed to the development and management of special collections, with primary responsibility for the Manuscripts Division of the MSU Libraries. This position will report to the Dean of Libraries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the Manuscripts Division, including developing and implementing policies and procedures for the arrangement and description of manuscript collections; accessions and processes manuscript materials; provides reference service for Manuscript materials and shares general reference duties with other Special Collections faculty and staff; serves as Library Liaison/Subject Bibliographer for an assigned MSU teaching department(s); participates in university and library-wide committees as assigned and maintains a course of professional development through active participation in professional associations and/or other professional activities external to the Libraries; supervises support staff and Library Student Assistants in the division; meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; three-five years of relevant library/archives experience; experience with automated library systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory and management experience; knowledge of and experience with digital collections; familiarity with History of Mississippi/South; additional graduate degree; documented record of professional publication and presentation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current archival standards and practices and evolving technologies; familiarity with cataloging standards for manuscript collections; ability to build donor relations; strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and written); ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to set and adjust priorities and workflows in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty and staff in a complex and rapidly changing environment; familiarity with ArchivesSpace, Archivists’ Toolkit, and other computer applications; demonstrates potential for meeting the requirements for promotion and tenure.
