Project Archivist

Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as Project Archivist. This is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Lecturer with an annual contract for two years and potentially renewable for a third year.

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries through the Director of Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, the Project Archivist will work on arrangement and description of University Archives collections. Responsibilities include: appraise, organize, arrange, describe, and provide access to archival collections; provide bi-weekly oral reports and written reports as needed; follow safety procedures; support and promote the Libraries and Texas A&M shared vision and values; other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or Archival Studies from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent;
• Demonstrated experience appraising collections according to archival principles;
• Demonstrated experience organizing and arranging archival collections;
• Demonstrated experience applying standard archival description, such as DACS;
• Demonstrated knowledge of archival best practices;
• Demonstrated ability to use archival software, such as Archon, ArchivesSpace, Archivists’ Toolkit, and AtoM;
• Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for handling fragile materials;
• Understanding of conservation and preservation needs of archival collections;

• Ability to work in a collaborative environment;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience working in university archives;
• Experience working with photographic materials;
• Experience working with audiovisual materials;
• Demonstrated ability to achieve results with minimal supervision;

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $48,000. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA-CREF; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for professional travel and development activities.
