In an effort to provide greater access to and knowledge of our archival holdings, the Brooklyn Museum Archives seeks two summer interns to survey several collections and publish collection-level finding aids. In total, the Archives contains 54 collections, 14 of which have published finding aids. Based on individual interests and research experience, the interns will survey several collections and write finding aids containing all DACS-required elements for single-level description. The Archives preserves and makes accessible the permanent records of the Museum as well as materials from the Museum’s parent organization, the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences (1843–1980), and the Institute’s predecessor, the Brooklyn Apprentices’ Library (1823–41). The holdings of the Archives total approximately 3,000 linear feet and include correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, publications, films, audiovisual materials, artifacts, and ephemera that document our exhibitions, objects, outreach, administration, research, and other activities. The ideal candidate for this internship will have an enthusiasm for the management of history and a strong desire to work in the archives field and will be enrolled in an Information Sciences graduate program with an archives concentration or have two years of experience in the field.

Compensation: The internship is unpaid; however, school credit may be earned.
Start and end dates: Summer; specific dates to be determined with supervisor
Work schedule: Flexible with work and/or academic schedule; 14–20 hours per week
To apply: Please send your resume and cover letter to internships@brooklynmuseum.org. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. No phone calls, please.
