Job Description (if URL to posting not available). Please include instructions for how to apply.: The Grand Rapids Public Library seeks a collaborative, self-motivated, tech-savvy professional for the position of Librarian in the Grand Rapids History & Special Collections (GRHSC) department. The GRHSC department collects and preserves the history of the people, organizations and businesses of Grand Rapids, with extensive, rich archival collections and an active local history and research community. The department serves as a regional genealogy center, working closely with the Western Michigan Genealogical Society. The department also includes rare books and one of the largest collections of books on furniture design in the country.

This is a key role for the department, with the opportunity to make significant impacts on library services and on the community. The librarian works independently within a team, managing their own projects with support and guidance from the department manager. Depending on the individual hired, the position may include archival processing, collection development, programs, outreach and tours and/or digital collections. The GRHSC department is looking for a leader in digital archival projects, to implement born-digital archiving and to further develop web archiving and digitized collections. The department is also focused on outreach and further developing relationships with under-represented communities.
