The Orange County Regional History Center, housed in a historic courthouse in downtown Orlando, offers four floors of exhibits exploring 12,000 years of Central Florida’s rich heritage. A Smithsonian affiliate, the museum also presents visiting exhibitions and a wide range of programs for all ages. From documenting defining moments in our history, including the Pulse nightclub tragedy, to bearing witness to everyday life, the museum plays an invaluable role by serving as Central Florida’s storyteller for generations to come.
The History Center is seeking a temporary Oral History Archivist to work with One Orlando Collection by collecting and preservation of stories, memories, and oral histories from the Orlando shooting that took place on June 12, 2016. This is a temporary, full-time position within the collections department of the Orange County Regional History Center. This position will work closely with the Center’s other One Orlando Staff.
• Processes oral history interviews according to standard museum practices, including recording field notes, preparing audio logs, cataloging oral histories, and preparing interviews for transcription.
• Works with the One Orlando Digital Archivist to plan and manage a digital oral history archive with knowledge of current trends, tools, best practices, policy development and issues with electronic records. Familiarity with current metadata standards.
• Communicates and works with a variety of organizations, institutions, and individuals within the area to collect materials related to the event.
• Assists in the creation of an online memorial website encompassing all collected materials.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in History, Museum Studies, Library Sciences, Anthropology, or closely related field and two years of experience in museums, archives, libraries, special collections, digital humanities, public history or a closely related field. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Master’s Degree in Museum Studies, Library Sciences, Public History or a closely related field
Experience utilizing Past Perfect museum software
Audio and/or video editing experience
Fluency in Spanish and English
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
Hours per week: 40
Hours/Days of work: 8:00am to 5:00pm / Monday – Friday with occasional evenings and weekends
