Summary of Work

This position is responsible for physical transfer of collections to the State Archives, at times requiring travel and loading/unloading boxes and bound volumes. Determines and addresses basic preservation needs of paper-based collections through flattening, cleaning, and creation of protective enclosures. Arranges and describes government and manuscript collections in accordance with current archival standards. Works with reference staff to assist agency staff, local and state government offices, and the public with research needs. Works with donors and government offices in the acquisition of collections. May supervise seasonal and volunteer staff.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in history, library science, or a closely related liberal arts or social science field, and two years of experience in analyzing and managing archival material.
Ability to climb ladders and lift materials up to 50 lbs.
Proficiency in research and computer skills.
Extensive verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Self-motivated and strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate level coursework or training archival administration.
Experience in archival arrangements and description, donor relations, and managing complex projects.
Experience with databases.
Familiarity with archival best practices, standards, and emerging technologies.
Interest in and general knowledge of North Dakota history.
