The Reference Archivist is a professional position in the State Archives at the Kansas Historical Society. Duties will include, but not be limited to:

Assist patrons with research questions through face to face interactions in the research room or virtually through email or phone requests.
Perform reference requests for distance researchers who are unable to physically come to the research room.
Monitor the reference email inbox for prompt and courteous answers to questions.
Work with reference staff to help develop programming and contribute to other outreach efforts.
Help process a backlog of collections for access.
The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in customer service.


A Master’s Degree in History, Library Science, or closely related field of study is preferred. The selection committee will consider a combination of experience and education if needed.

Preferred Qualification:

At least 2 years working in customer service, preferably in a special library or archives setting. Archives certification is desired, but not required.

This is a classified, full-time, benefit eligible position. The pay is $15.75 per hour.
