Job Description (if URL to posting not available). Please include instructions for how to apply.: James Goodman Gallery, an established midtown gallery specializing in modern and contemporary masters seeks a dedicated intern to help with daily tasks and special projects for Summer and Fall 2020.
The Archives Intern’s primary objective will be to assess the gallery’s archive and prepare it for an institutional donation. The archive includes approximately 30-40 linear feet of gallery documentation consisting of invoices, insurance appraisals, photos, copies of certificates of authenticity, inventory cards (by date and artist), photos, exhibition checklists and announcements, gallery publications that correspond to the gallery’s 60 year history in New York. As such, maturity and discretion are essential to this role.
Additional duties will focus on helping to organize our 4500+ volume library with a particular emphasis on researching our extensive collection of catalogue raisonnes. Furthermore, the Archives Intern will assist in researching artwork, updating inventory, filing, etc., and will work directly with the Gallery Sales Director. Our open work environment and small staff provide a wonderful opportunity to learn the art business, the market and the private dealings of a secondary market gallery.
The ideal candidate should have excellent computer skills including familiarity with Photoshop, be responsible, and have the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. The internship provides a daily stipend, lunch, and will work with schools so that students may receive credit. While offering a flexible weekly schedule, a minimum commitment of three months is required.
