Please include instructions for how to apply.: The Chicago & North Western Historical Society Archives (CNWHS), has an opening for an unpaid internship beginning around October 1, 2020. Duties of the intern will include creating a web-based cataloging system to allow viewers to add catalog information to digitized photos and documents. The web-based system will show photos to viewers and provide text boxes for data entry. The system will have a method to capture the entered data for extraction and entry into the CNWHS Archives collections management system. The work will primarily consist of webpage development and archival data management.

The intern will report to and work with the Archives Director of the CNWHS Archives. While the CNWHS Archives are located in Berwyn IL, the intern will be able to conduct all work activities remotely. Interns who wish to undertake this internship for academic credit will need to contact their advisor at their school.

Desired qualifications include coursework in digital collections, good computer skills, web development knowledge, ability to pay close attention to detail, and reliability.

The intern will work remotely and will set their own timeframe for project completion. A minimum once a week check-in will be required to account for progress and direction of the project.

The Chicago & North Western Historical Society ( is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
corporation whose purpose is to collect, circulate, and preserve the history of the C&NW and its predecessor and successor lines; to create and publish a magazine; and to promote fellowship among C&NW fans and Society Members.

The CNWHS Archives holds one of the largest railroad collections of archival material in the Midwest. Material includes photographs, drawings, maps, and corporate papers dating into the mid-1800’s when the initial railroad was formed.
