Job Description (if URL to posting not available). Please include instructions for how to apply.: The Archives Center and Digital Programs Office at the National Museum of American History (NMAH) are collaborating with the Asian Pacific American Center (APAC) to develop a controlled vocabulary guide. The broader goal is for the guide to be used as an internal resource by staff and improve the catalog records for Asian Pacific American archival and material object collections at NMAH. For this project, the team is seeking a graduate student intern to build on the APAC cultural terms resource. The intern will assist with terminology research, identify relevant external thesauri or controlled vocabularies, contribute terms, and identify areas for the guide’s growth and improvement. Based on the intern’s area of expertise and interests, the project team may also find opportunities for a case-study application of the guide.
Goal: Overall, this internship aims to provide insight into real-world challenges impacting the cataloging, description, and access to Asian Pacific American archival and material object collections, enhance the intern’s knowledge and critical thinking of controlled vocabularies, metadata, and descriptive practices in a museum setting, and introduce the intern to multi-unit collaborative work.
