Expected Project Duration: 18-24 Months
Expected hours: Full time, approx. 9:00-5:00
Salary Range: Minimum $25 per hour, plus benefits package.

Description of project:
Leonard Cohen was a Canadian renaissance man: poet, novelist, songwriter, musician, artist, and more. Upon his death in 2016, his personal papers and archive went to the Leonard Cohen Family Trust, from which this project originates.
The Leonard Cohen Family Trust has taken on the task of digitizing the majority of Leonard Cohen’s personal and business archive in coordination with Canadian Cultural Institutions that will receive and preserve the materials. The goal of the project is to populate a combination Digital Asset Management System and Archival Access System which can serve to increase findability and unique connections for researchers and fans into the future while reducing the need for physical handling of delicate material.

Processing Archivist 1
Summary: Focuses on digitizing manuscript and notebook pages and arranging and describing ephemera. Contributes to metadata to Digital Asset Management System, using established protocols, while identifying any needed improvements. Works closely with Processing Archivist 2. Candidate will be required to work in the physical office in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles.
Responsibilities include:
• Scanning and recording metadata for print and handwritten pages, using a flatbed scanner, an overhead scanner, and a book scanner.
• Photographing or assisting in photographing objects for inclusion in the digital archive.
• Assigning metadata and creating archival descriptions.
Qualifications and Skills required:
o Familiarity with digitization best practices, archival arrangement and description, proper archival handling techniques, common metadata standards and digital asset management concepts.
o Understanding of the use of controlled vocabularies and descriptive cataloging.
o Ability to learn new technologies.
o Attention to detail.
o Critical thinking skills.
o Ability to use a Mac and a PC computer.
o Research skills.
o Bachelor’s degree.
Qualifications and Skills desired:
o MLIS degree highly desired.
o Dublin Core, DACS, and RDF.
o Ability to occasionally lift 20 pounds, reach and climb.

Processing Archivist 2
Summary: Focuses on arranging, describing and rehousing business records and fan mail and rehousing and digitizing photographs. Contributes to metadata to Digital Asset Management System, using established protocols, while identifying any needed improvements. Works closely with Processing Archivist 1. Candidate will be required to work in the physical office in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles.
Responsibilities include:
• Rehousing, arranging, and describing archival business records and fanmail.
• Assessing business records and fanmail for sensitive information and research value.
• Rehousing and scanning photographs.
• Assigning metadata and adding archival descriptions.
Qualifications and Skills required:
o Familiarity with digitization best practices, archival arrangement and description, proper archival handling techniques, common metadata standards and digital asset management concepts.
o Understanding of the use of controlled vocabularies and descriptive cataloging.
