Archives intern with the Drikung Kagyu Dharma Circle
The Drikung Kagyu Dharma Circle (DKDC) is seeking a student with audiovisual archives experience to take the first steps in processing a collection of recordings that document the teachings of recently retired Khenchen Rinpoche.
There is a variety of formats in this collection, including cassette tapes, CDs, and DVDs. Some materials have already been digitized.
Duties will include:
- Surveying the materials;
- Preparing a condition report;
- Making recommendations for preservation; and
- [possibly] drafting processing plan.
This is a paid position at $15/hour
This position requires the ability to work independently to assess an unfamiliar archive. Jesse Henderson at UWDCC will be available for technical advice, and Debra Shapiro at the UW-Madison iSchool for logistics; however the intern will work primarily on their own.
Access to a vehicle is required. The materials are located in Mount Vernon WI (about 20 miles from Madison). DKDC will provide a gas card to cover some of the costs of commuting.
It is expected that the project will begin in January 2022
To apply, please contact Debra Shapiro, dsshapiro@wisc.edu
