The East Mountain Historical Society in Tijeras, NM, is currently seeking a temporary, part-time contract archivist to identify, organize, catalog and index, preserve, and set up storage for a small collection of irreplaceable vintage photographs, oral histories, maps, organizational records, analog recordings and physical ephemera. The archivist will digitize printed and analog materials in accordance with FADGI (Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative) and create finding guides for location and retrievability. The archivist will design and implement a professional management system that identifies and documents the provenance and condition of each item and determines the acceptance or rejection of materials with the approval of the archive advisory committee. Archivist will specify supplies, storage materials, and equipment required for preservation and design the layout for an archive room in the Tijeras Senior Center. The archivist will verify legal, public use and access of materials and facilitate access to materials through the historical society website and associated NM Digital Collections. The archivist will supervise a short-term (100 hours) assistant for digitizing materials and will work with and instruct volunteers from the historical society archive advisory committee in all aspects of the project. The project will begin in February 2022 and end in October 2022. The archivist will complete the project with 250 hours work at $35/hour and will receive a total reimbursement of $8,750. Funds for the project come from a subaward grant from the federal ARP American Rescue Plan, administered by the New Mexico Humanities Council.
