The South Dakota State Archives seeks an energetic and motivated research room administrator to support and foster research in the archive’s collections. This position is responsible for providing a full range of reference and research services including consulting with researchers to assess their needs, suggesting relevant resources, and orienting archives visitors to research room policies and available equipment.

Additional duties include conducting in-depth historical research for remote researchers upon request, overseeing the microfilm interlibrary loan program, and promoting the State Archives and its holdings to stakeholders and the general public. This public service role requires strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and communication skills.

This position is responsible for processing, reviewing, and preparing financial forms; submitting weekly and monthly reports; and supporting archival staff with routine office maintenance requests and supply ordering. The research room administrator will also work with and provide guidance to volunteers and interns; ensures the safety and security of the collections being utilized; perform minor maintenance on office equipment; and utilize word processing, spreadsheets, and database systems.
