LANL is looking to hire a Group Leader with a passion for leading people, working with customers, and developing innovative solutions to programmatic challenges.
The WRS, NSRC Digital Collections Group Leader (GL) will provide both leadership and management of the National Security Research Center Digitization Team. The National Security Research Center is Los Alamos National Laboratory’s classified library. It houses vast collections of material related to the Weapons Program and national security.
The GL will manage the NSRC digitization team to implement various accelerated digitization programs to digitize the vast collections of physical media. Additionally, the GL will work with program managers in Weapons Production, Weapons Engineering and Weapons Physics to digitize and deliver digitized content and relevant metadata via established Weapons databases such as On Line Vault (OLV), and PDMLink. Experience with managing large, complex budgets is needed to manage the Group’s budget from various sources.
The GL will be responsible for establishing and managing multiple high production scale digitization labs and implementing the digitization workflow, streamlining the digitization processes, establishing standardized file formats and managing resources to meet weapons customer research requirements.
The GL will work closely with the division management team and will maintain and develop working relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the Laboratory, and will pay close attention to the development of the personnel within the Group. The GL will be responsible for hiring new staff, identifying opportunities for the development and maintenance of technological capabilities and professional expertise within the Group. The GL will also be responsible for developing tactical plans and strategies to implement the NSRC Director’s strategic plans and organizational objectives in support of the Laboratory’s weapons program work. Additionally, the GL will provide administrative management of safeguards and security, integrated work management, performance appraisal and salary management, human resources, staff planning and forecasting, and financial management and oversight. The GL must ensure a safe and secure work environment, promote and support affirmative action goals, and nurture professional excellence.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Leadership: For this role, you will need the ability to motivate and lead a team with diverse skill sets and expertise through a technical platform. This includes experience in performance and salary management budgeting, organization of workflow, conflict resolution and staff development.
Digital Collections Archiving: To succeed in this role, you will need experience responding to contemporary challenges affecting the management of special collections and archives such as preservation and conservation of material objects, digital records preservation, and/or use of digital tools and methods to enhance delivery of special collections content and services to scholarly and non-scholarly audiences alike.
Data and Information Management: At this level, you must have experience working with data and information in the process of supporting a national security mission. This includes experience in developing and/or managing database systems.
Collaboration: You will also need expertise and success in the leadership, negotiation, and collaboration with funding sponsors and collaborators including sponsors in the DOE/NNSA, DOD or other federal agencies. You must also have the ability to develop and build strategic collaborations that positively affect the Laboratory, the National Security Research Center, and the National Security Enterprise.
Communication: You must have excellent verbal, written and visual communication as evidenced by talks and presentations, effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills, and must support an open, inclusive, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
Clearance: Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires US Citizenship.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Weapons Knowledge: Knowledge of weapons business systems or processes in one or more of the following disciplines: physical and electronic archives, information technology, product-lifecycle management, and/or configuration management.
Sponsor Collaboration: Experience interfacing with federal funding sponsors and a comprehensive understanding of federal government archive and information management requirements.
Classified setting: Experience working with classified documents, classified systems, and in VTRs.
LANL Operations: Practical knowledge of LANL business systems, operational and work processes, administrative practices and procedures, and key Laboratory points of contact. Experience working within the LANL and NSE weapons program.
Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
