The digital archivist’s primary purpose is to help build, curate, design, preserve and cultivate The Dallas Morning News Archives as well provide professional technical archival support, research support for historical information and contribute to content produced from the archives.
Responsibilities:
Assists with managing born-digital, digitized and analogue materials for organization, description, ingestion, storage, preservation and access
Creates content writes stories for online and print, social media posts and newsletters as well as stories, oral histories and other creative projects
Assists with editing, design and organization of front and back end of archival site
Troubleshoots archival technical issues and implements creative solutions
Assists research editor with refining policies and procedures, performing evaluation and maintaining of physical archives including clips and microfilm
Processes digital and physical collection materials for long-term storage
Creates content for online and print, social media posts and newsletters as well as stories, oral histories and other creative projects
Works with licensing historic content
Collaborates on projects with researchers and newsroom staff
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in archival or library/information sciences preferred.
Generally 2 to 5 years experience in archives, research, database maintenance, libraries or newsrooms preferred.
Experience with either newspaper digitization projects, docWorks metadata software, Web design, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python and/or writing experience is a plus.
