Please include instructions for how to apply.: The News Archivist is responsible for the organization, inventory, and cataloging of all television news collections and assists in the processing and cataloging of other archival moving image and sound collections in the Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection. This position provides reference and instruction in a variety of settings to faculty, students, staff, independent researchers and members of the community, and coordinates tours and other outreach efforts to promote and provide public access to the archives. The position is responsible for supervising and mentoring student assistants and paid interns participating in UGA’s Experiential Learning program.

The Brown Media Archives is one of the largest media archives in the country. The Archives includes six news collections from across the state of Georgia and the WSB Washington DC Bureau tapes as well as 5 million feet of newsfilm, folk music field tapes, home movies, Georgia-related broadcasting, and large collections related to the University of Georgia. The Brown Media Archives staff is also responsible for the management and care of the audiovisual collections associated with the Hargrett Rare Books & Manuscript Library, and the Peabody Awards Collection. This position reports to the Metadata Archivist of the Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection. The Department is comprised of four full-time librarians, four support staff, and student assistants.
