Please include instructions for how to apply.: The Reference Archivist will join a dynamic and innovative team to provide access and research support to the extensive collections held by the Wisconsin Historical Society (the Society). The Reference Archivist will be responsible for providing reference and research services to patrons using the Society’s nationally recognized visual, manuscript, map, rare book, state and local government records, library, and artifact collections. The Wisconsin Historical Society’s holdings make up one of the preeminent North American history collections in the country, with a library of more than 4 million volumes, an archive of more than 105,000 cubic feet of manuscript collections, 25,000 maps and atlases, 3 million photographs, 750,000 three dimensional artifacts, and an extensive sound and moving image collection. The Society’s holdings include one of the largest newspapers and periodical collections in the country with a specialization in African-American newspapers and alternative serials publications that span the political spectrum.
This position will work closely with the public services team to engage students, the academic community and the general public with primary source material from the Society’s collections. In addition, the reference archivist will help to support the research efforts related to the development of the Society’s new history museum.
