Rare books and manuscripts dealer specializing in 19th and 20th-century women’s history, African Americana, literature, Military history Archives and First Editions, etc. is seeking part-time research and administrative assistant. Position requires the ability to research historically significant facts and write appropriate descriptions for books, letters, original photographs, and documents. The company acquires, arranges, describes, and makes available for sale to institutional and private clients primary source materials and rare books. Our clients include Special Collection and University Archives plus private collectors. Collections include a wide array of materials and formats including archival records, personal papers, letters and autograph manuscripts, photographic and other pictorial materials, original first editions, historical pamphlets, and artifacts. You will need to acquire a great deal of historical, biographical, and book-specific information in a short span. You will need excellent writing and collaborative skills. You will be researching and writing descriptions for archives, rare books, etc., and have daily office administrative duties relating to University purchases and other office work. A good background in history and literature is helpful, and a love of books is a must.

Qualifications required:

4-year college degree

Excellent writing skills

Excellent communication skills

Excellent research skills

Detail-oriented and able to organize and prioritize work

Must have at least 55wpm typing speed

Comfortable with PC Computer

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word

Ability to work in a small office environment

At least 1-year work experience

Ability to work under minimal supervision

Ability to meet deadlines and use your time efficiently

Helpful Qualifications but Not required:

Understanding of Rare book and Archival terms and descriptions

Experience with archival and special collection descriptions

Handling of archives and/or cultural heritage items

Experience with Filemaker Pro Database
