BRIT Library in Fort Worth, Texas supports botanical research and education in Texas and around the world. The Library’s carefully curated collection is a valuable research tool for those studying systematic botany, plant science, horticulture, natural history, and ethnobotany.

Internship overview

12-16 hours a week in person over the course of 10 weeks from mid-to-late June 2022 to mid-to-late August 2022, $2000 stipend

The goal of this internship is to provide an aspiring information professional with a valuable role within a National Science Foundation-funded digitization project, “Advancing the Extended Specimen Network: Curating and Digitizing the Sherwin Carlquist Collection”. BRIT Library strongly encourages applications from students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to libraries, museums, and archives.

Responsibilities, duties, functions, and tasks may include:

• Properly handling and re-housing Sherwin Carlquist’s photographic materials.
• Assisting with pre-digitization tasks.
• Transcribing information from slide boxes and slides into spreadsheets.

Additional Information

This is an in-person paid summer internship with a semi-flexible schedule spanning over 10 weeks. The preferred candidate will be able to work on-site 2-3 days per week.

Required Education and Experience

• Soon-to-be enrolled, currently enrolled, or recently graduated from an ALA-accredited MLIS (Master’s in Library and/or Information Science) program.
• Proficiency with Office 365 and Google Workplace, particularly Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
• Fluency with computers and familiarity with databases.
