of the Seminary. ULS seeks a two-year, temporary Processing Archivist who is energized by the
opportunity to work with this historic collection.
In coordination with the library director and assistant archivist, the processing archivist will be
working with the archives of the Lutheran Theological Seminary onsite at the Philadelphia campus.
The processing archivist will determine arrangement, assess, and process print and audio/visual
archival collections spanning the former institution’s 150+ years of history from various storage
spaces into the seminary’s compact storage facility. In addition, the processing archivist will
highlight materials for future digitization projects and supervise a student employee. Coordination
of work with the Lutheran Archives Center at Philadelphia is expected.
Salary Range: $40,000-$45,000 per year; Full-time position with employee benefits package.
Reports to: Library Director & Archivist
Travel: 10%
Major Responsibilities
• Coordinates acquisition, arrangement, description, and processing of archival collections
• Creates finding aids and other indexes to collections within Archives Space
• Assesses the value and develops the arrangement of institutional history
• Collects and interprets statistics & relevant data.
• Cares for the preservation and repair of collections and materials, rehousing materials and
identifying materials in need of further care.
• Performs original research on seminary-related individuals.
• Other tasks as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in history, education, religion, or relevant field plus 2 years of experience
processing archives, which included experience using Microsoft Office 365 software to
generate and analyze reports. Demonstrated experience/aptitude with library and archives
software and services is preferred.
*Graduate degree in public history, archival science, library science, or relevant field
is preferred and may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree and experience.

• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team-based, multi-campus environment.
• Knowledge of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and/or its predecessor bodies is
