Please include instructions for how to apply.: Durand Union Station Inc Michigan Railroad History Museum Position: Museum Director Job Summary: Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Museum Director’s responsibility is the day-to-day operation of the Michigan Railroad History Museum. The position also assists the Executive Director with the operation of the Durand Union Station Inc., a 501(c) nonprofit, in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors. The Museum Director provides professional leadership in all facets of the organization including administration, event/program coordination, greeting guests, assisting with volunteer and staff development, assisting with fundraising events, grant writing and strategic planning. As Museum Curator and Archivist, the position manages the archive, develops and implements programs and displays, and maintains the museum/gift shop hours including the oversight of gift shop volunteers. Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to): Work with the Executive Director to further develop relationships with our community (Railroad community, Durand area, Michigan, United States and International) to enhance the scope of the museum and nonprofit. Work in tandem with the Executive Director in developing and implementing long term vision for the nonprofit, building and campus. Focus on strategic goals of the organization including but not limited to visitor enhancement. Seek out grant funding that would be beneficial to the nonprofit and building. Conduct research on issues specific to the railroad, and nonprofit development into promotional materials, displays and programs. Effectively communicates in written, visual, and oral form with individuals and influential groups within the community. Be proficient in computer software related to publishing, presentation, donor databases, publisher, Google suite, Microsoft Must be dependable, positive, enthusiastic about helping others, trustworthy, reliable, professional and organized. Have the ability to navigate a wide variety of activities, and distractions with professionalism. Assist with preparation and editing of correspondence, presentation, and reports. Maintain filing and communications systems including contact management, document management and archiving. Assist with nonprofits social media accounts. Assist Executive Director with donor/funder development. Qualifications: Experience: 5 years museum sector experience. Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in museum management or library science. Experience in the non-profit sector is beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take initiative, be a team-player, be flexible, adapt to shifting priorities and prioritize work. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to access a wide range of sources and networks for information. Good judgment and ability to function independently. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Wix web platform, social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok. Compensation This is a full-time, exempt position, Tuesday through Friday, some evening and weekend hours based on programing and event schedule. Salary is commensurate with experience.
