Brookens Library at the University of Illinois Springfield seeks highly motivated candidates for the position of University Archivist. The successful candidate will be a part of the university leadership team, serve as operational manager, and set strategic direction for the Archives & Special Collections unit. Responsibilities include: archival and records management, retention and disposal of university records; and expertise in research, access, digitization, and preservation. The University Archivist develops and implements all policies pertaining to the management of the Archives & Special Collections.
Qualifications/minimum education and work experience:
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution, or equivalent degree in history or archival management. Two years of relevant experience in the administration of archival and historical records. Familiarity working with donors, faculty, students, general public and researchers. Supervisory experience and demonstrated decision-making skills. Ability to successfully work independently and to achieve outcomes within a collaborative environment. Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with collections management software and an awareness of current practices in born-digital curation. Knowledge of current standards, best practices, and emerging trends in Archives. Experience with, and a commitment to effectively work with, faculty, students, users of the archives, and/or community members from varied backgrounds.
