The Collections Management Archivist, located within the Collections Management program of the Archival Technical Services unit at Ohio State University Libraries (University Libraries), leads complex collections management and processing projects, and leads the unit’s student employment program.
The Collections Management Archivist utilizes their archival processing experience, their thorough knowledge of archival standards and best practices, and their experience effectively leading and executing complex projects to manage processing of archival collections in a wide range of size, format, and complexity. This position actively supports the teaching and research objectives of University Libraries Special Collections by providing leadership to ensure timely completion of processing requests. The Collections Management Archivist completes routine processing activities independently, and leads projects to process collections collaboratively with colleagues across the Archival Technical Services unit.
The Collections Management Archivist also applies their archival knowledge and experience to successfully develop workflows and lead complex collections management projects to inventory, assess, stabilize, enhance, and/or otherwise improve collection storage and description. The Collections Management Archivist collaborates with colleagues inside and outside of the Archival Technical Services unit to identify project prioritization and outcomes.
Additionally, the Collections Management Archivist leads the student employee program for the entire Archival Technical Services unit. The Collections Management Archivist is responsible for determining and managing spending of the unit’s student employment budget, and manages recruiting, scheduling, and all other administrative tasks for unit student employees. The Collections Management Archivist develops and maintains the unit’s queue of student projects, collaborates with unit colleagues to assign students to work throughout the unit, and provides effective training, supervision, and feedback to student employees.
