Temporary Part-time
15-month position; January 2023 – March 2024

Atlanta History Center is looking for a highly motivated and results oriented professional to fill the temporary part-time role within the organization of Project Registrar.

Responsible for researching and improving access to approximately 1,000 museum objects for the purpose of creating a digital repository of these items. Works with staff members to ensure the care and safety of collections and follows collections policies and procedures. Will research collection items, create detailed and east to understand content on each record, and enters all relevant research and data into the institution’s collections management software database.

Responsibilities

Research and disseminate information gathered into detailed and easy to read content for at approximately 1,000 objects.
Update collections records in ReDiscovery Proficio Collection Management System
Collaborate with Collection Manager on project and research
Communicate with staff regarding the process and any issues
Participate in biweekly Project Committee meetings of inventoried records and review of web ready records
Manage and track project numbers for digital surrogates/web ready items
Assist Collections Manager with management of Graduate Research Assistants that are completing the inventory portion of this project.

Qualifications

M.A. (completed or in-process) in History, Public History, Museum Studies, or relevant field preferred
Experience working with Museum Collections or Research
Proficient in museum registration practices and principles
Proficient in researching historic objects and writing exhibit quality text
Knowledge and experience handling museum artifacts
Experience tracking and managing deadlines
Must be able to lift heavy objects

Skills

Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; advanced proficiency in collections management software, preferably ReDiscovery Proficio
Must have a thorough understanding of collections registration and historical research best practices
Understanding of general collections management principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

The hiring committee will interview candidates in person the week of November 28th and the following week as necessary. The estimated start date is January 3, 2023. No relocation expenses are covered.
