Please include instructions for how to apply.: Working closely with the Director of Research and the Research & Archives Assistant, the Archive Intern will focus on special projects within the gallery’s internal archives. We are in the process of consolidating and reorganizing our physical archives, which are primarily stored offsite, and are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Archive Intern to assist with processing and cataloging new items. In addition, the Intern will assist with creating and updating our digital catalogue in ArchivesSpace, which is in the process of being built out. The position will be primarily based at our Chelsea location, but some hours at our offsite facility in Bushwick will be required. Qualified candidates for this position should be familiar with handling ephemera, processing collections, database management, and developing finding aids. Some knowledge of and interest in twentieth-century and contemporary art is preferred.

Primary responsibilities include:

Assisting the Research & Archives Assistant with the accessioning and processing of incoming materials.

Appraising the current collection holdings, rehousing material and applying basic preservation when needed.

Assisting the Research & Archives Assistant with the importation of data into ArchivesSpace.

Expanding item level descriptions of collection holdings in ArchivesSpace.

Developing agent and subject records within ArchivesSpace, as applicable to our existing collections.

Collaborating on special projects, such as the survey and arrangement of unique ephemera.

The ideal candidate should be:

Enrolled in or recent graduate of a current MLIS or accredited Archives program.

Familiar with ArchivesSpace or comparable information software.

An efficient writer and communicator.

Internship will be 2-4 days/week, flexible, Monday – Saturday, 10am-6pm. Internship is paid at NYC minimum wage of $15/hour. Winter/Spring internship runs from the beginning of January through the end of April. Candidates must be residents of NY, NJ, or CT. No lodging or commuting expenses will be provided.
