Job Description (if URL to posting not available). Please include instructions for how to apply.: Reporting to the Head of the Architecture Research Center (ARC), the Visiting Asst. Professor for Architecture Archives is responsible for the coordination and implementation of archival processing of current and new collections, as well as the coordination of digital collection building initiatives. This position will work closely with the Head of Manuscripts and Archives Management, and will serve as the Architecture Research Center’s liaison to the departments of Digital Initiatives, Metadata and Discovery Services, and Preservation Strategies. The Archivist will work with the Head of the ARC to develop programming for outreach to faculty and students within the University community and external partners and constituencies that will enhance access and discoverability to the current holdings. This position will also be responsible for the continued development and enhancement of existing analog collections such as the Archive of the New Urbanism and other areas and topics related to urban planning and the built environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance

Coordinates the processing of collections, including assigning projects to staff, students, and interns as appropriate.
Oversees Archives and Special Collections reading room and reading room staff (1 student).
Develops relationships with University faculty to help assess their instructional and research needs as pertinent to archival collections.
Offers archival based bibliographic instruction to the School of Architecture when requested by University faculty.
Participates in Library and University-wide groups who deal with issues pertaining to manuscripts and archives, including digital initiative groups.
Provides reference and research services for archival collections in Architecture Research Center.
Creates descriptive metadata for architecture archives following accepted practices and standards, and works with catalogers and archivists in the library to implement sound Encoded Archival Description (EAD), MARC 21, and DACS (Describing Archives: A Content Standard) guidelines.
Develops content for the Department’s web pages regarding archival materials, including collection finding aids, descriptions of new collections, bibliographies, and donor-related information.
Communicates effectively, works collaboratively, and maintains helpful and supportive customer service.
Offers informational presentations to University and other individuals and groups as requested.
Contributes to the development and management of special projects as requested.
Participates in the advancement of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Service

Actively participates in archival, library, and historical professional organization, conferences, workshops and presentations.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Compensation will be competitive and will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the person selected. This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor rank.
