MUUS Collection is home to an extensive collection of photography and related archival materials. The Digital Asset Manager and Collection Assistant is an integral part of the team and is responsible for carrying out a range of tasks to support the day-to-day operations of an active collection. The position provides dynamic experience in all aspects of archival work with a focus on the creation and management of digital assets. The Digital Asset Manager and Collection Assistant manages the organization of and access to MUUS’s digital assets, which
includes providing quality control for all image metadata, implementing organization strategies, and assisting with licensing requests and social media content. They will also assist the broader collections team in processing physical collections material, including scanning and
cataloguing photographic materials; performing historical research as needed; and assisting with on-site research visits.
The position requires a dynamic, self-sufficient, detail-oriented and enthusiastic candidates who works well both collaboratively and independently. The candidates should be able to organize information at a high level, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and creatively solve problems. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff at all levels across the institution, and with outside organizations and vendors. Must possess the drive and focus necessary to think critically and improve and expand upon procedures and protocols already in place with a goal of refining workflow.
Primary responsibilities:
• Create digital assets by scanning print and film photographs and editing images to industry standards
• Review, edit, resize, rename, and create metadata for digital assets for a variety of uses
• Maintain metadata standards and naming conventions
• Manage digital assets
• Refine workflows and develop solutions for managing a burgeoning digital asset collection
• Assess, arrange, describe, and rehouse film-based material
• Process other collections materials
Secondary responsibilities:
• Assist in the development and scheduling of social media content
• Perform research and curatorial assistance as needed
Minimum requirements:
• 3-5 years professional experience in imaging and digital asset management, preferably in a museum, gallery, archive, or library setting
• Strong technical skills including imaging and metadata standards, digital image editing, and fluency in Adobe Creative Suite
• Knowledge of the history of photography, photographic materials, archival practice and research methodology preferred, but not required
• BA/BFA/BS in Museum Studies. Library Science, Fine Arts. Photography, History, American Studies or related field. (Master’s degree preferred.)
• Ability to handle collections materials properly
