The Nadia Sophie Seiler Rare Materials Residency is a nine-month term-limited postgraduate position intended to provide recent graduates of programs in library science, archives management, or similar fields with substantive exposure to and training in archival and special collections description and cataloging.
Under the supervision of the Chief Archivist, the Nadia Sophie Seiler Rare Materials Resident creates, enhances, and maintains archival description and associated metadata for bound volumes and single-item collections in the YCBA Archives. The Resident will evaluate current descriptive practices and propose and implement new cataloging initiatives for objects such as notebooks and books to increase access and discoverability. The Resident will also contribute to YCBA projects and meetings concerning the description and discovery of archival materials.
At the culmination of the Residency, the Resident will present a public talk on a topic relevant to the experience gained during their tenure. The Resident will also receive funds to attend the 2023 Society of American Archivists (SAA) Annual Meeting or similar professional development activities.

Residency Award and Benefits: The Nadia Sophie Seiler Rare Materials Residency will take place at the Yale Center for British Art for nine months. The Resident will receive an award of $42,488, to be disbursed over the term of the residency. Funding for professional development and associated travel will be provided. Health insurance will also be provided.
