Collections Intern (paid)
20+ hours per week preferred, approx. 3 months
Summary: Under the guidance of the Special Collections & Exhibitions Leader, the intern will catalog artwork and historical artifacts housed at the Carnegie Center for Art & History, a branch of the Floyd County Library.
Key responsibilities:
• Create catalog records for unprocessed artwork and artifacts according to best practices
• Edit and clean up existing catalog records in PastPerfect database in preparation for public access
• Perform basic research on collection materials
• Photograph and digitize select objects
• Rehouse materials according to preservation standards
• Identify duplicate materials in collections housed at the Carnegie Center and the library’s Indiana History Room, and prepare for deaccessioning/transfer
Experience and qualifications:
• Interest in local history and cultural heritage management
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Docs Editors suite, and Adobe Acrobat
• Detail-oriented, ability to work independently and in a team, and willingness to learn
• Bachelor’s degree in history, art history, or a related field
• Graduate student or recent graduate of a Master’s degree program in museum studies, history, art history, library science, or a related field (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of museum collections practices and metadata standards (preferred)
