PROJECT ARCHIVIST INTERN FOR AAGC COLLECTION AT AUSTIN HISTORY CENTER
The Austin Area Garden Center, Inc, is hiring a Project Archivist Intern to integrate the AAGC Collection into the Austin History Center catalogue for people to find items available at the Library. The collection consists of 8-10 original scrapbooks that record AAGC’s contributions to Zilker Botanical Garden over this nonprofit’s 70 year history in Austin.
The Project Archivist Intern will work with the Austin History Center processing archivist to arrange and describe the collection using ArchivesSpace and related tools.
Minimum qualifications
• Ability to work onsite at the Austin History Center in Austin, Texas
• Ability to work a minimum of 6-8 hours per week to complete project by December
• Knowledge of current standards related to the archival control of collection materials.
• Current graduate student or recent graduate (within the last two years) with coursework in archives or digital preservation. Archives experience may substitute for coursework.
• Skill in using computers and related software, including Microsoft Office products.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with ArchivesSpace
Deliverables by December 2026
• Create metadata for AAGC scrapbooks
• Integrate 8-10 scrapbooks into the Austin History Center content management system (ArchivesSpace)
• Create a finding aid for the collection
Job Description
• Supervising volunteers in content management system data entry

Terms
• Phase 1 funding is $4800 at $25 per hour, with potential for future work.
• Paid position starts June 1, 2026, with two weeks onboarding as an AHC volunteer.
